Long-Term Ownership

As a long-term owner with an unlimited horizon, Tidan’s real estate portfolio features timeless architecture, thoughtful planning and an abundance of amenities to create a sense of place. The company also sets the standard in reinvesting in properties to maintain them in first-class condition.

Master Planners and Builders

Tidan’s most ambitious project to date is the award-winning transformation of the Mount Stephen Club, built in 1880 in the heart of downtown Montreal. When Tidan purchased it in 2006, the property needed substantial work, and the partners quickly realized that Le Mount Stephen could become much more than an elite gathering place for the city’s richest patrons. They decided to build an 11-floor, 90-room contemporary hotel and opened the framed doors to anyone who wished to dine or stay there. The construction that took 5 years was rather complicated. But the result is astonishing.

Chateau Champlain: Warm Memories for Montrealers and Canadians

Constructed in celebration of Expo 67, the hotel is a cornerstone of Montreal’s modern history, according to Yuval, and the building holds warm memories for Canadians. During the pandemic years, while the occupancy rate was rather low, Tidan took the opportunity to carry out a multi-million-dollar facelift of the establishment. “We bought this hotel from an American company, and today we are very proud that it belongs to Montrealers again,” says Yuval.

Historic Godin Building with a Lavish Makeover

Tidan renovated and rebranded the existing property into HOTEL10, a 137-room boutique hotel. “We really put lots of work into it, changing all the furniture, the lobby, the carpet — everything. Immediately, we had different guests, and a different ambience; it’s wonderful,” says Yuval. “We made it so that everyone feels at home.”

A Mountain Resort Takes Root

When Yuval and Sofer do take a moment away from work, they enjoy heading up to their property in Sainte-Adèle — the 240-acre Hotel Mont Gabriel, which they purchased and renovated in 1998. “We love it there; we have golf, tennis, and 136 rooms,” says Yuval, noting that resorts require bigger investments than hotels.

But unpredicted challenges are never far away. Due to a fire that took place in December 2022, the establishment has undergone a major makeover and has re-opened in the fall of 2024 as Hotel Mont Gabriel — a Tribute Portfolio Resort

Heading South to Expand a Growing Portfolio

In 1991, Tidan purchased a Fort Lauderdale hotel that had seen better days. The Ramada Plaza Beach Resort needed a great deal of TLC when the partners took it over in 1991 and later renamed it Ocean Sky Hotel & Resort. “The hotel was really run down. There was a small bar, an old pool, and the city was after them to fix the sprinkler system,” recalls Yuval. “We bought it, and Jack moved there for three months. We changed everything; I still don’t know how we did it. In 2024, the property underwent another major renovation, making it a destination that will be the envy of all travelers and tourists.

A Supportive Corporate Culture with Strong Management

Many Tidan employees have been with the company for more than 30 years, something the partners are very proud of. “People don’t work for us — people work with us. We treat them well and we are one big family,” emphasizes Yuval.

Sofer adds that fostering an inclusive environment while also encouraging loyalty and hard work makes for a happy workforce. “If something is going on in their lives or in their family, they come to us,” he says. “We want to know and we like to help, and that’s what keeps our people close to us.”

The founders have always surrounded themselves with a dynamic, perceptive and trustworthy management team to oversee operations, human resources, finance and all legal aspects of the company.

Honored by Greater Montreal Hotel Association

The two Tidan founders and partners, Jack Sofer and Mike Yuval, received the Grand Hotelia, a recognition award for their continued efforts to develop the Greater Montreal hotel industry and for their contribution to the tourism industry since 1970.

Jack Sofer and Mike Yuval were presented with their recognition award and trophy at the Greater Montreal Hotel Association’s gala held in November 2023 at the St-James Theatre in Montreal.
