A brief History

Since its opening, this hotel has been a true emblem of Montreal’s modern history. Built and owned by the Canadian Pacific Hotels for several years, Chateau Champlain’s inauguration was just in time for Expo 67, which was held on the occasion of Canada’s 100th anniversary.

The 38-story building designed by Roger D’Astous was the first high-rise building in Montreal to be designed by a French-speaking Canadian architect. It was also the tallest hotel in Canada at the time. The building’s windows were inspired by those of the Canadian Pacific Railway’s Windsor Station, across from Chateau Champlain. The hotel had long been one of the five tallest buildings in Montreal and is still very visible when entering Montreal from the west and south.

The hotel is home to several major Montreal events. Tidan acquired the property in 2018, giving itself the mission to restore this jewel of a hotel to its well-deserved iconic stature.
